The Oaks Lodge, Yarmouth Road, North Walsham

(1910 to 1914 / North Walsham, Norfolk)

The Oaks Lodge, Yarmouth Road, North Walsham
The Oaks Lodge was on the Yarmouth Road between the junctions of Grammar School Road and Farman Avenue and stood beside the gateway to the Oaks estate. Originally a typical Norfolk red brick and pantile building, it was changed by the Cooper family to a parapetted, Georgian style.

Its last occupant was Stanley Sutton and it was demolished in 1960. Stanley Sutton was a North Walsham cricketer with memorable humour. Once, when bowling, he twice loudly appealed for "leg before wicket". only for the umpire to say "You nearly got him, Stanley". Finally, Stanley sent the wickets flying and, before the umpire could utter a word, said "I nearly got him that time!."
